My Students

Our school is a Title I school located in rural North Carolina. Many of our students come from low income families with limited learning opportunities at home. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch daily. Last year, our county suffered severely from Hurricane Florence. This terrible hurricane displaced families from their homes and some are still not back home. some are currently not back in their homes today!

My students come from many diverse and challenged homes, but crave fun and exciting ways to learn during their guided reading time each day!

One of my goals as a teacher is to provide things that my students are lacking and to create a positive learning environment. Every day I strive to meet their various needs in any way I can. My students love to read, and so by creating an engaging space to be successful in guided reading, my students can be academically succeed.

My Project

A guided reading table is a necessary resource in any classroom. At the guided reading table, a special type of reading instruction takes place. This special reading table will bring my students together as they learn to read and gain new reading strategies along the exciting path to becoming successful readers.

The ultimate goal of guided reading is to teach children skills to help them read independently on their individual reading level!

This table will allow my students to sit with me in a special area to work on their reading goals. We will work on word attack skills, accuracy, and comprehension.
