Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our first graders are a sweet group of children that come to school each day, ready to learn and put forth their best effort. We have a large population of English Language learners. We use a variety of strategies to modify instruction to meet the needs of these students.
At our school, the large majority of our students face financial hardships.
Our students need assistance with purchasing school supplies. We spend our budget purchasing supplies for students, and often find ourselves short when we need to purchase supplies for the whole classroom. We would like to provide students with the best instructional tools possible.
My Project
As teachers, we spend a great deal of money purchasing supplies the students need each day such as pencils, erasers, and notebooks. After purchasing these materials we do not have enough funds to purchase additional classroom resources. We would like to purchase highlighter tape and lined chart paper to enhance our small group reading and writing instruction.
In our small group reading and writing instruction, we place a great emphasis on vocabulary and sight words.
Our students are English Language learners so vocabulary instruction is crucial. Highlighter tape would allow us to make vocabulary words stand out in a guided reading text.
To follow up small group reading instruction we would use the lined chart paper to create shared writing as a group.
