Growth and Learning No Matter What!

Help me give my students sensorimotor equipment so that they can continue to develop their social emotional learning in a COVID safe environment with items like beanbag chairs for socially distant learning!

My Students

Inquisitive, playful and creative are just some of the words used to describe the 578 students at our school, each one with their own unique personalities and needs. Our students thrive when they can explore their emotions in a safe environment that engages all five of their senses. Like so many other schools, the onset of the pandemic has negatively impacted the growth and development of vital social emotional learning (SEL) skills. Distance learning and other restrictions have made it more difficult for our students to practice communication, teamwork, build self-esteem and socialize with their peers.

Our staff is constantly amazed by our students' resilience, their hunger for knowledge and their shining personalities.

With this grant we are hoping to lessen some of the challenges our students face in practicing their SEL skills during this pandemic, so that they may reach their fullest potential. This project will go a long way in helping to build a sensorimotor room for our students to benefit from.

My Project

As these supplies are being used by the Counseling Department to positively impact student outcomes. We will be using the counseling program standards to explain our requested items, their purpose and goals. We appreciate your understanding.

Resources such as the beanbag chairs will provide students the ability to participate and learn in small groups with flexible seating charts that remain at a safe distance.

Other equipment like the Airivo lights projector, the punching bag, the air diffuser, and the stacking stones promote students' ability to meet the Mindset Counseling Standard 5; Belief in using abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes. All items were chosen for their adherence to COVID safety and SEL learning potential.

By providing a socially distant and safe environment that engages all 5 senses and incorporates peer-interaction, students are able to de-escalate, relax, and develop the coping skills they need to be successful, well-rounded students.
