The students in my First grade classroom are from the most diverse backgrounds and represent every facet of Houston life. We have Gifted and Talented students, English Language Learners, Special Education students and students from many different cultural and ethnic groups.
The students come to me excited about learning and eager to learn to read.
In a classroom as diverse as mine, the learning needs to represent the same kind of diversity. Some children learn through hands on activities, some children learn through dance and movement, some children learn using songs and chants, and some children learn with the help of technology.
I have noticed through many years of teaching that we have to be prepared to serve all children and all types of learners. That is why I would like more iPads in my classroom to reach every child, every day.
My Project
Our main focus in First grade is reading. Every child comes to my classroom ready to learn and eager to read. Every child also comes to my classroom with their own specific needs and modes of learning.
With the use of an iPad many of my struggling students can get excited about learning.
The students can use the iPads to access reading programs to help them through fun and exciting games. They can also listen and watch books being read to them through the Houston Public Library and Epic.
With the use of an iPad, I hope to help my students access important reading resources and make them excited about learning. Nothing is more exciting to the student than when they realize they are reading! What a wonderful gift to give to our children.
