My Project
I am a speech-language pathologist working with young children and children who are not yet verbal. I feel that my students will benefit from being able to touch and manipulate animals to help their language grow. I am asking for materials that will allow hands-on play based learning. It will create an opportunity for learning vocabulary and language skills. The hands-on play will create natural opportunities for modeling sounds, naming, increasing length of utterances. It will allow for multimodality cuing and teaching language concepts. Some examples would me moving animals in and out of the barn. Having the wild animal move up and down in the tree. Animals can be hidden under container to work on the concept of "where" or moved to teach locative terms. Animals can be pulled out or put in a bag to help make labeling fun and engaging. The possibilities are really limitless when you provide play based learning. I am sure that students will be excited about and interested in these materials. It will provide a natural way to create joint attention and focus. I am very excited to facilitate growth in the language skills of my littlest learners.
