My students are energetic and inquisitive first graders. Our classroom is an inclusion classroom that includes children with a variety of learning styles and emotional needs. We spend a lot of the day in differentiated small group work.
The students are encouraged to strive for independence and to think for themselves.
Literacy instruction plays a big part of our day. We have a wide range of readers from above grade level to students who participate in highly targeted reading intervention.
Mexico, Sudan, Pakistan and Nigeria are just some of the countries that my students come from. Most of the children have supportive families of a low to middle socioeconomic background. We love learning and growing together!
First graders are full of excitement for learning and grow tremendously as readers during the year. As we grow as readers the types of reading materials we would benefit from changes. Additionally books will give all of the children the chance to be reading good fit books all year long.
The new books we are requesting will allow the children to read and learn at the appropriate level.
The books will be used in small group and independent reading. These books are engaging and interesting to first graders. These new books would provide more variety to our classroom library and more motivated readers!
