Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love how curious, resilient, and big-hearted my students are. They come to class each day eager to share their ideas, make connections, and grow as readers and thinkers. Many of my students see pieces of themselves in the characters we read about, and those moments of recognition are when the deepest learning happens. They thrive when stories feel real, relatable, and meaningful to their own lives.

The requested novel sets will give my students consistent access to high-interest, culturally responsive literature that strengthens both literacy skills and social-emotional learning.

Ungifted will help students analyze multiple perspectives while exploring themes of identity, labels, and belonging. The House That Lou Built will support character analysis and perseverance as students examine how determination and family shape Lou’s journey. Our third companion novel will deepen students’ ability to compare themes across texts, cite textual evidence, and engage in thoughtful discussion.

With class sets available, every student will be able to actively participate in close reading, collaborative discussions, and written responses aligned to grade-level standards. These books will not only build comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills, but will also help my students see that their voices, experiences, and growth truly matter.
