I have the privilege of being the band director at a middle school and high school in a small, rural town in North Carolina. The band program is full of hard-working students and supportive parents. However, there is limited funding available for the numerous materials we need to build a successful program.
Every day, my students impress me with their desire to learn and to become the best musicians possible.
They work hard and strive to meet every goal that we set. The students in this band program are dedicated and determined! With their positive attitudes and strong work ethic, and the addition of needed materials, our band program is going to grow and flourish.
My Project
Our band program is experiencing the best possible problem; we're growing! With this growth comes the need for more school-owned instruments. Schools generally purchase and provide the more expensive instruments like tubas, baritones, percussion instruments, and large clarinets and saxophones. With this project, I'm looking to provide a Yamaha tenor saxophone for our program. This instrument is a high quality instrument that will be used by saxophone players for years to come.
The addition of a tenor saxophone to our program will help add depth to the sound of our bands.
While only a few students will play this instrument, the entire band will benefit from the richness of the sound it will add to the ensemble. Adding the tenor saxophone part would help bring better balance to our high, mid, and low range instruments.
Currently, our saxophone players are all playing alto saxophone. I would love to provide the instruments needed to allow them to explore other members of the saxophone family.
