My Students

I will be starting my 11th year teaching elementary school. I have taught fifth grade for 8 years and will be transitioning this upcoming school year to teach third and fifth-grade math and math interventions. My classroom will be a space for my students to explore new ideas, discover new topics, challenge their knowledge and expand their understanding. Most of my students come from low-income families and are struggling more than ever due to the challenges of the last year. Many of the students I will serve come to school with individual challenges and a variety of experiences. 90% of the students in our school are students of color. 95% of our families qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Our families cannot afford the extra materials needed to help their children learn. I want to help those families help their children.

I am so excited to provide the best math education and experience for all my students.

My Project

Having these resources in my classroom, my students will be able to make connections between concrete, representational and abstract concepts. These will help students continue to develop foundational skills.

Teaching math using hands-on manipulatives, games, and books will help to

engage my students and make learning new concepts relatable. We will be able to explore these concepts together in large groups with posters and different math books. During our small group flex-time, students will be able to use the dominos, math counters, and games to explore new ideas independently and grow. I will also be able to work with students one on one with the materials to help build independence with different skills and mathematical concepts.
