My Students

My school is located in a low income urban area. Our entire school receives free breakfast, lunch, and a fruit or vegetable snack every day. Many of my children come from cultures where English is not their native language, it is their second language. They are learning at levels of extreme variation, from being emergent learners to gifted and talented learners. For lots of my students, school is the only stable and positive environment in their lives. They look forward to being here, and thrive on learning. They are seeking out an education that will help them accomplish their dreams, and now they need the tools to be successful.

My Project

These books and materials will help my students learn and grow through gardening. They will get to experience the thrill of watching their plants grow all while learning the science behind it too! We will get to grow vegetables and herbs in the classroom through aquaponics and planting our seeds traditionally in soil. This project will also help us learn and explore more healthy eating choices as we get to experience first hand where our food comes from. A tower garden will allow for my kids to see how more than one type of plant can grow alongside each other. This will bring the beauty and fun of a garden right inside to our very own classroom!
