As educators, we have the responsibility to ensure that our students develop an appreciation for the environment. We also need to impart an understanding of how their actions can have an impact on the environment. As the media specialist I support these efforts by ensuring that our students have access to books that will help them understand their critical role in caring for the Earth.
Providing students with a variety of books for read-alouds and independent reading on topics related to the environment, climate, and conservation will help students to understand their role as stewards of the Earth while they build their reading skills.
Books will be available for circulation in the library and used for instruction in the media center as well as for whole class read alouds to enhance student understanding about issues related to our planet and how they can play a role in taking care of it.
