The students at MES come to school excited to learn. They are full of wonder and are eager to create and discover new things inside and outside of the school building.
We are an urban school with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch and many living in apartments with little green space.
Our dedicated staff serves students in grades K-6 in a safe and fun learning environment. Our staff and students are thrilled to be given the opportunity to participate in our school's newest addition...A Learning Garden!
My students will get hands on experience planting, fertilizing, caring for and eating the fresh fruits and vegetables grown at school. This hands on science will give them the opportunity to see and understand the life cycle of plants and what helps them grow. It is important for students to learn where their food comes from and how it affects their bodies.
My students need tumbling compost bins, an educational see through compost container and tools to turn our lunchroom waste into valuable fertilizer for our Learning Garden.
This Learning Garden is an opportunity to bring students together toward a common cause. Students will collect lunchroom waste, add it to our compost bins and watch it become natural fertilizer which will then be added to our garden.
