This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students in my classroom really look forward to math time and are excited to begin our day with a math warm-up.

My students love to use manipulatives during Math Workshop as it enables them to "see" the math concepts come to life.

Our school community is located in a high poverty area and school is a safe haven for my students. All students are given a free breakfast and free lunch everyday. The students in my classroom face many challenges on a daily basis but they enter the classroom with an enthusiasm for learning every day.

My Project

My project is requesting a fluency kit from ETA hand2mind. This kit will allow me to incorporate Number Talks with my students which in turn will increase their self-confidence and number sense in math.

The manipulatives and materials in this kit and the related math discussions will build students fluency in math.

This kit includes 180 days of quick daily math activities. Also, included are 120 days of Number Strings that students will be able to discuss strategies they use to solve the given related problems. Finally the kit contains over-sized materials to be used while demonstrating key concepts.

This kit will be a great addition to my Guided Math Workshop. My students and I can focus on some of the big ideas of first grade math.
