Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Kindergarten students are just beginning to read and love to hear stories read to them. Many of their families are not able to read to them at home because they are working two jobs or are in school at night.
The students are from poor inner city homes where many speak a second language.
The families try hard to help their children, but an added plus would be to hear stories read at school. The children love to learn and are learning to love reading. They love anyone to read them a story. This reading system is easy to use and includes activities after the book to improve reading and comprehension skills. There are also different levels of reading the book, so as the children begin to read, they can use the more difficult level. I am finding out that the more time children read in school the more successful they are at reading. The tag readers are very easy to use and fun for the children. I have also found that if the children are having fun while learning, they stay focused and motivated much longer.
My Project
The four tag readers and the many storybooks will be used in centers and throughout the day whenever the children are reading books. They will be so good for the children to inspire them to read more and to read independently. The stories are high interest and the children love to read the same stories over and over again. In a classroom where there are many children and few adults, the children can hear stories stories while the teacher is working with a small group of students. This gives the teacher the peace of mind that the children are doing a worthwhile and productive activity while in centers and at free time.
Reading is key for success in school.
These readers will give these children the opportunity to improve their reading that will continue through their entire life. For some of the children the only time they hear stories read to them is at school.
