Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Gateway students are curious learners who thrive when they are challenged to think deeply, ask thoughtful questions, and explore ideas beyond the basics. This project will provide engaging literature and daily enrichment materials that help students strengthen advanced reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.

Students will begin each day with short bell-ringer activities designed to build reasoning, comprehension, and problem-solving strategies.

Throughout the week, students will explore rich stories such as The Tale of Despereaux, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Because of Winn-Dixie. These novels provide excellent opportunities for students to analyze character development, identify themes, and participate in enrichment activities that extend their thinking.

For our younger learners, we will also explore the beautifully illustrated story Last Stop on Market Street, which encourages thoughtful discussions about kindness, community, and perspective.

Using these books, students will engage in literature-based projects, collaborative discussions, logic challenges, and creative problem-solving activities. These experiences will help students build confidence as readers while strengthening the critical thinking and reasoning skills that support academic success.
