Mrs. Uva from Tampa FL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need 20+ high quality literature books to help them meet the goals of the Common Core State Standards. These books will help my students develop as readers.

Do you remember what it was like to imagine going to college? What if your elementary school inspired you to set high achieving goals to help you? Would it have furthered your desire to pursue a college education? Providing resources to students that build upon these dreams will help them succeed.
As 90% of my students are economically disadvantaged, understanding the importance of higher education and career fields that are available to my students is critical to helping break the cycle of poverty.
Hands on exploration will help motivate my students to succeed as they learn while having fun. Because we are a magnet school with a theme of medical and science exploration in an urban neighborhood, parents have made a choice to send their children to our school to improve their academics while building their knowledge base related to medical exploration. These children need the extras that they are not afforded in the classroom or through state funding. They are avid readers who will benefit from having the opportunity to read books that will allow them to receive rigorous instruction that focuses on the Common Core State Standards that are not provided with the district adopted textbooks.
With these books, my students will be able to explore academic concepts that relate to helping them become college and career ready in society. My students will be able to explore non-fiction text through high quality literature that addresses the Common Core State Standards. This will inspire students to pursue dreams of attending college or making plans for a career that will provide them with the viable means to be a productive member of society. This will also help them make better choices in their academics as they realize their potential to succeed and how vital school is to achieve this goal. This grant will help develop my students as readers, inspiring them to gain a love of reading while meeting the goals of the Common Core State Standards.
Donations to this request will provide meaningful exploration of the non-fiction text while increasing reading comprehension skills and strategies.
This will inspire my students to understand and enjoy non fiction text, especially in the area of science. This will promote an increased interest in pursuing a college education. These resources can also help to break the cycle of poverty that the majority of my students face by helping them focus on a college education.
