My Students

The school at which I work has devised a student-centric program that specifically entrenches youthful determination for finding ways to help organizations within the community. The combination of social responsibility and the expression of gratitude to those that impact our daily lives has empowered students to unify in improving the world in which they live.

Our staff has made it their personal and professional mission to embolden our students to be enterprising thinkers in both the free market and the free world.

My Project

My class is engaged in the second year of a minimum three year commitment with the local Parks and Recreation Board to help beautify the park across the street from our school. This was the largest project of our school year, and my students had varying responsibilities throughout this student-led process. Some researched the biology of flowers, others organized the materials and scheduling, still others conducted a fundraising campaign, and a few even presented the idea to the board on two separate occasions. The requested item will be used on a re-occurring basis to minimize the costs of flowers for the park and simultaneously providing a STEM project with layers upon layers of inquiry. The excitement of growing their own flowers that they will plant in the park for this project is an especially rewarding treat. Limitless tracking data about the growing process adds even more math to our goal.
