My Project

I truly love how eager my students are to learn and grow, especially when it comes to reading. As multilingual learners, they bring diverse backgrounds, languages, and experiences into the classroom, and I strive to create an environment where each of those identities is valued and reflected. My classroom library is one of their favorite spaces. We gather there for read alouds, small group work, and independent reading, and it has quickly become a place where students feel comfortable, engaged, and excited about books.

Every book in this project is intentionally chosen to reflect my students’ identities, spark their curiosity, and make reading feel meaningful and accessible.

I have observed the types of books they naturally gravitate toward and have also asked for their input on what they enjoy reading. These multicultural books will continue to build a print rich classroom where students can see themselves in the stories they read while also learning about others. When students feel connected to books, they are more motivated to read and more confident in their language development.

With these new books, my students will have access to a wider variety of texts at different reading levels, allowing them to choose books that match both their abilities and their interests. Choice is powerful, especially for young readers, and it encourages them to take ownership of their learning. The more they read, the stronger their literacy skills become.

My students have already shown an incredible enthusiasm for independent reading, and they treat our classroom books with such care and appreciation. This project will not only expand our classroom library but also deepen their love of reading and support their growth as confident, capable readers.
