This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students live in a food desert there are limited choices and very few fresh food options. We would like to help build a community garden my students are learning about plants and where their food comes from. In this line they are often exposed to prepared foods and canned options. This leads to childhood obesity and unhealthy eating habits in connection with our health teacher and high school cooking classes we are hoping to encourage a community garden. My students had the idea to sell seedlings at discounted rate to help raise the funds to build a community garden. Since we learn about plant growth and the parts of the plant this fits naturally in our classroom along with the ability to give back to their hometown.
