Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their enthusiasm, curiosity, and joy for learning every day. In our DLI kindergarten classroom, children learn Spanish as both a first and second language while working together, exploring, and participating in hands-on activities. My students are special because, despite having different language levels and experiences, they always show excitement for learning and supporting one another in a bilingual and inclusive environment.

The resources in this project will help my students develop literacy and math skills in a more interactive, engaging, and meaningful way.

Many of my students are learning Spanish as either a first or second language, so hands-on materials and visual supports are essential for helping them feel confident and successful in the classroom. Scissors will strengthen their fine motor skills and coordination during hands-on activities, while pencil grips will help students develop a more comfortable and correct pencil grasp for writing. Dry erase markers and whiteboard erasers will allow students to practice reading, writing, and math skills confidently without being afraid of making mistakes. Word-building games will support letter recognition, sounds, and Spanish word formation, and hands-on manipulatives will help students better understand math and literacy concepts through visual and interactive learning. In addition, small group chairs will create welcoming spaces for collaborative learning, conversations, and active participation. These resources will encourage participation, creativity, exploration, and confidence while making learning more accessible and enjoyable for all students.

My goal for this project is to provide practical and motivating materials that increase my students’ confidence, participation, and love for learning as they continue growing in Spanish and math. These resources will give my students more opportunities to feel successful, engaged, and confident while learning in two languages every day.
