My Project

l work with some amazing young people. My students have learning difficulties and learn better through hands-on experiences. A hydroponic gardening system is a wonderful way for students to gain firsthand experience in understanding how tiny plants can grow into the food we eat. Adding a fish to our mini-farm will provide additional learning opportunities. Studies show that the benefits of an aquarium are seen in cognitive development, imagination and social and emotional skills.

My young students have experienced many obstacles in their lives; taking care of plants and animals will provide my students with a sense of accomplishment and purpose.

It is my hope that this project will have several positive learning outcomes for my students. First, they will learn about taking care of living things. Additionally, we will use the food we grow to cook things like salads, soup, and even herbal tea. Finally, I wish to offer any extra food to our school families. So many of our students experience food insecurity; I want my students to see themselves as able to do many things including helping others.
