Group Work Inspires Thinking

My students need storage boxes, cardstock, and pocket folders, to differentiate instruction and review topics as we move through a very fast paced curriculum.

My Students

My students are the light of my day. Each of my 60 students brings something special to class everyday. I have a group that loves to show their love and respect through hugs/handshakes and compliments. The community is a blue collar community where many parents work multiple jobs. I have a large population of free and reduced kids that come to school with nothing, but their love.

My students come to me with many levels of knowledge.

With so many ideas in one room our days are filled with great conversation. I love spending time in getting to know each one as individuals.

My Project

I am new to this school and I want to implement Math stations in my classroom. Math stations build a sense of community in a classroom while reviewing topics that are hard to master in a one lesson math book format. Building community is vital for students to feel safe and make concrete connections to their learning.

With the supplies purchased DAILY students will be exposed to 9 different pieces of the curriculum on top of their regular Math curriculum.

The tubs will allow me to keep several lessons stocked and ready to hand out within seconds. This time saver will allow the students more time to work in their groups on the curriculum they are working on. The markers, dice, counters, and place value chart will be in the tubs, so students will be able to manipulate with the materials and build concrete evidence of their understanding. This allows for higher levels of understanding and mastery. With these stations I will be able to reach more than one standard at a time and continually monitor growth and achievement.
