Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a full-day, special education, pre-kinder class. This is the first school experience for many of them and they are already showing their eagerness to learn!
Although our school is predominately low-income, (100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch) these little guys and girls are all highly motivated to learn!
Our classroom consists of many different backgrounds, ethnicities, and learning abilities; however, our motto is, "Teamwork makes the dream work," and we work together every day to help each other learn.
My Project
Many of our student have been stuck in the house for months already with parks and other recreational activities being closed due to Covid-19. Now, a long, harsh New England winter is approaching and we need to get moving, literally! These materials will get my students moving and help them develop motor skills in addition to building relationships through team building activities, instilling self-confidence, allowing self expression and let's face it, having FUN together!
Most of these materials can also be used indoors for when our playground is off limits, whether it is due to Covid-19 or our harsh New England winters!
We can use the River Rocks, the River balance beam, the bean bag toss, the parachute, the scarves, the tunnel and the hopscotch rugs to enhance our gross motor time without leaving our classroom!
