Greenwave Military Students Appreciation 5K

My Project

Celebrating out military students and their families with an organized event that promotes wellness, community and sportsmanship will be a highlight of the year at our school. Our facility is able to accomodate an organized 5k fun run event that will bring in our students and their families. The items that have been requested for this project will help make the event a memorable one that will become a yearly occasion that brings our community together.

Wellness within our community can continue to be supported by a 5K event that the middle school hosts to celebrate our Military students and their families while brining in our whole community.

Our school has been a recognized Purple Star school for the past 3 years. As a Purple Star School, we ensure that students who are affiliated with the military are being provided additional supports as they transition into our community. By hosting a yearly 5K run, we can bring the community into our school to help celebrate these students with us. The materials needed for this event will encourage our whole student population, staff and their families to participate in a healthy event.

This project will help create a yearly event that will be held in April, celebrating the Military Child Month. The large start/finish line marker and time clock, are a beacon to those that regularly compete in local 5K's and bring interest to a new group that may not have experience competing in a community 5K. Having hydration stations is a must for hosting a 5k to ensure safety of all participants. The award lanyards will be used to recognize all that have participated in the event. This event will bring together our school community as we recognize those students who have family remembers in the military.
