This year is my 21st year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of Western North Carolina. My drive to work is full of beautiful landscapes. My school is kindergarten through fifth grade, with fewer than 150 students.
We may be small, but our dreams are big.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student. Economic status does not provide a barrier to learning; instead, it provides a challenge this school accepts on a daily basis. With your help, we can give these deserving students everything they need!
My Project
Let's continue to bring the bots to school! I can't wait to see the students create and make solar and salt-powered robots, an insectoid and a potato clock! These requested robot kits provide a hands-on learning experience that illustrates the value of alternate energy sources.
The saltwater robot is powered by the chemical reaction of salt water and charcoal and is safe and non-toxic.
The Green Rocket uses recycled materials and air pressure to launch homemade rockets up to 80 feet in the air.
The Potato Clock uses a pair of ordinary spuds to power a digital clock.
Detailed assembly instructions are included and students will learn to work together and learn how to read basic directions and to use regular household tools to build and create. All of these robots that we are requesting are ideal for young science enthusiasts, especially those with an interest in robotics.
