Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Legacy Early College Middle School is home to at risk children, that are typically underserved by local schools. Their parents have made the decision to have them attend a charter school, instead of their underperforming assigned local schools. The majority of our scholars are living in poverty and have never traveled outside of the state of South Carolina. Our school is primarily made up of African American scholars, with minorities of Hispanic and Caucasian scholars.

The goal of the school is to ensure that we send all of our scholars to college one day.

If we reach our goal most of the scholars would be the first to go to college in their families.

My Project

My scholars come from homes where the loudest person is heard the most. They develop a habit of trying to be the loudest individual in the room. Loud environments are harmful to learning and collaborative work.

I want to ensure that everyone in my classroom has a voice and an environment that can be productive.

With the sound meter device scholars will begin to learn what a productive noise levels are. It is especially beneficial for scholars with disabilities that require quite places to work.

To ensure that all scholars have an equal opportunity to learn and work collaboratively with one another.
