My students need a 'wind farms kit', and 'solar energy car kit', to learn how alternate energies are harnessed. They will also explore the advantages and disadvantages of different renewable energy forms.
My students from are a diverse group of learners who have very different learning styles. This particular group of students are motivated learners, but have difficulty learning in traditional ways.
My students are creative and artistic adolescents who love working on projects that have real world connections.
My students learn best through hands-on, inquiry-based activities.
I try to incorporate activities, and assign projects that will help them make connections to the real-world. This will also motivate the girls in my class-room to strive to do better in science.
My Project
Students will use Alternate Energy Kits (Wind Farms, Solar Cars, Geothermal Kits) to study renewable energies hands-on. They will also work on additional design challenges related to renewable energy.
Students will research and explore alternate energies, to solve Raleigh's energy crisis (due to the growing population and the need for a clean green City).
They will act as members of a City Council and present their solution to their peers.
They will then reach a consensus on the solution to the energy crisis after conducting a detailed Risk-Benefit Analysis that explores both the advantages and disadvantages along with location specifics.
