Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students come from all ranges of socioeconomic backgrounds. My students vary from fully ready to start to the day and year to not being able to blend correctly. Some kids aren't able to buy all of their supplies. I, like many other educators in the building, are working with a very strict budget and while we would love to provide our students with all the things they deserve and need to nurture their creativity, it is hard.
This is especially true when we do not have the financial resources that other schools have.
Because we are a non title 1 school we are not able to receive a lot of funding, which leads to us coming out of pocket for a lot of things. Parents are amazing in helping to contribute to our classroom needs, but not every parent is able to provide. Donors help bring smiles to my students' faces every day through the donations made and the materials purchased through DonorsChoose.org.
My Project
I am in the process of moving schools and my new classroom does not come with any books. I fortunately have collected books over the years, but one thing I have not been able to do is build my series library. I have selected series that I loved as a child and I know my students have loved reading.
Getting lost in a good series book helps build reading stamina and allows a child’s imagination to go wild, these series books will definitely do just that.
The titles that I have chosen have proven to be favorites in classrooms around the world. I would love to be able to bring these amazing titles into my classrooms to kids who would love them.
