I teach ESL and inclusion third grade in Austin, Texas. I teach students from all over the world, including India, Korea and Japan. I encourage children to learn by using different hands-on tools to explore different topics in our curriculum. My students do this through working in small groups and using various methods that include: art, writing, technology, and collaborative reading. By learning in these ways, my students become confident, cooperative learners, who are not afraid to try new things. I encourage them to do these activities by guiding them through questioning, prompting, and positive feedback.
My Project
My students have already learned how to read. Now they need some good novels that will show them how to read to learn. These books were specifically chosen to help students with the strategies they need to help them comprehend at an even higher level.
The books in this project will allow students to think deeply and take them on a journey like never before.
Each book will be a focus book for the month. The books will engage my students in high quality texts that offer a multicultural perspective about the world around them. The students will become critical, close readers who are curious and informed about their world community. Thank you!
