Great Musical Selections for Great Bands

My students need March of the Belgian Parachutists, Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song, Superstition, and Aztec Fire to help them broaden their musical repertoire and provide their audience with a variety of music.

My Students

My band students are between 7th grade and 12th grade. They come from many different backgrounds, and have varying ability levels on their instruments. With such diversity in the band, we need a wide range of music to allow every musician a chance to perform something that will help them develop.

These band students are all aspiring musicians with a desire to learn and perform more diverse wind band and jazz band repertoire.

Unfortunately, the budget for band is limited, especially since a large portion of it is spent on instrument repairs. The current music library is limited, and many of the pieces in the library are missing many parts or even the conductor's score.

My Project

This music will allow students to play staples in music literature. By exposing them to this music, the students will learn to play in a variety of styles, tempos, dynamics, and with a variety of articulations. The musical selections will also expose the students to the music of different cultures. While learning to play the music, the students will also learn about life in the different cultures and some historical facts behind the music.

It is very important, for the development of young musicians, to be exposed to music literature that will allow them to grow as a musician.

The current music library is limited in terms of challenging music containing all of the parts and score. With this new and complete music, the students will be challenged to work hard in order to develop as musicians. This will help their general school lives by teaching them to develop a work ethic, learn better communication, and how to work as a community to reach high levels of achievement.
