Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are ready to soak up good books, they just need to get them in their hands.
Over a quarter of my students are English Language Learners and we need more materials to help them transition into being even better readers and writers.
Most of my students don't have books at home or resources to visit the public library on their own, so our classroom library is sometimes the only books they have. Please help us build our library.
My Project
I try to connect and motivate my 6th grade students by sharing with them a personal story I have from when I was their age. While trying to read aloud I was embarrassed to discover how much better other kids my age were at reading for me. I set a goal for myself that year to read one book every four days, and it had to be at least 100 pages.
I read a lot of Nancy Drew but also the complete series of the Great Illustrated Classics.
Sets or series are really great for developing readers and this is a beautiful one.
