This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I work with students who are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. However, despite their circumstances, they love to learn and I'm trying to create an environment where they'll be competitive in all aspects of digital learning and computer science.

My Project

In this day and age of technology, almost anything is possible as long as the funding is available. Unfortunately, funding can be difficult to come by. This is where DonorsChoose and the great donors and people who support projects are such a great help. With the Google Expedition Kit, a class of students can experience walking on the moon as well as the depths of the Earth’s oceans.

With over 200 virtual reality experiences the Google Expedition Kit opens not only the world to the students but the universe as well.

With a Google Expeditions kit, I'll have everything I need to take my class on virtual reality tours: a tablet, virtual reality viewers, phones and a router to connect them all.

A majority of my students do not have many opportunities to get very far from their home and the ability to explore these foreign lands and museums will be invaluable experiences. The cost and logistics of taking students on field trips of these magnitudes are very exorbitant and virtual field trips will help expand our teaching beyond the classroom in an affordable, safe, and easy way.
