My day is spent working with students who have been identified as Dyslexic. I also work with students who are struggling readers and just need a little extra help in specific areas that might include making inferences , comprehending, vocabulary development, or sequencing. Often times I would use reading games to help strengthen those skills rather than assign another passage in order to bring something different and fun into reading. Many of our students have had limited experiences out side school and games are a great activity to reinforce these skills.
Our school was flooded during Hurricane Harvey, so I lost many of my materials that the children use to help with comprehension, vocabulary and making inferences.
It is my hope that those items can be replaced in order that the students meet with success.
My Project
Most children love to play games and through playing games learning takes place.Playing a game is a fun activity for a skill that is being taught. Critical thinking skills, creativity, teamwork and good sportsmanship are taught or acquired while playing games. Connections with the content are made and engagement levels are usually high.
By donating to this project you will be helping to create an atmosphere where motivation to learn is not an issue.
If children are having fun they will continue to be engaged and more reading skills will be reinforced. I want my students to LOVE reading and reading games are a positive means to that end!
