Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first graders work hard and come to school each day excited and ready to learn. In my classroom the children learn reading, writing and math en espanol. This work is challenging for my students, but as their language and content skills grow they become confident and engaged. With your help my students will have the tools and materials they need to learn and grow into their potential.
Many of my students have experienced trauma and for a lot of them the classroom is a refuge from the chaos of their daily lives.
I strive to create a caring and supportive classroom that will help my students leave their worries outside of school and get focused and ready to learn. I know my students can do anything they put their minds to and be anything they want to be - and with your support these young learners will realize that the sky is the limit!
My Project
My students love nonfiction and fairy tales books. Even my reluctant readers are eager to learn about their favorite animal or natural disaster. But my Spanish language library is sorely lacking great nonfiction and fairy tale books. These wonderful nonfiction books will help my students get reading and stay engaged. For example, we just had a nonfiction unit and students wrote about their favorite animal. However it was very hard for them to research about their favorite animal since there where no books about that animal. These books would really help them be more engaged in their learning.
