Gray's Anatomy, for the third grade set
The cost 4 non-fiction science books for our classroom library is $123, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
After several years of teaching Kindergarten, I have recently begun teaching a third grade class. I have found, much to my delight, that my students love silent reading, especially when they can select books that appeal their own interests.
I have found that many of them love non-fiction Science books. In fact, during recess, the kids often want to talk about all the cool and interesting things they learned and some ask to continue reading DURING recess! Their questions about science are endless and they absorb this information like sponges.
As districts focus more and more on Math and Reading, I find that budgets for Science and Social Studies have been dramatically reduced. My kids would be so grateful to have books to read to supplement the Science textbook they are currently using.
Currently I don't have many non fiction science books in my classroom library that are at a third grade level. (Unfortunately, most of my reading materials are for kindergartners).
Both my current and future students would very much appreciate books to add to the classroom library, for both silent reading and for reports they are assigned.
The desire to learn more about Science and Social Studies is already inside them, they only need some new materials to quench their thirst for knowledge. Please help my students fulfill their inner Einstein's!
