More than half of students from low‑income households

My students need a Chromebook computer to both reinforce basic math skills and also support writing skills.
The challenge facing my students is easy access to computers to support language and math skills. Access to computers is not something that can be assumed at our school, especially classroom computers. A classroom computer will help each student in my class in academics and self-worth.
The students that come in to my classroom have a wide range of ethnic backgrounds, economic status and abilities, more so now than ever in my 23 years of teaching.
The ethnic backgrounds of our students are wide and varied, which can be something to build on, but this also creates problems for students new to the country or with low income or ability. An in-class computer helps the teacher and students gain access to academic support that is at their ability level and interest. A majority of the my students are from low income households that do not have a computer access. But this does not show in their energy and excitement for learning.
The ability to jump on a computer when needed and carry out activities both fun and educational is something the children are excited about. An available computer helps the teacher and student gain access to academic support that is a their ability level and interest. A computer right in the room can benefit all in the classroom. My students need a Chromebook computer.
A classroom computer with student access benefits both teacher and students. Because of the varied ability levels and computer programs, all students can make gains. Teacher involvement and web sites can offer guidance to struggling students. I have seen it work in other classrooms. The students are proud of their gains. The new growth in knowledge and success leads to proud and successful students.
I believe the donation of money to support the purchase of a classroom computer will be beneficial to the students in my classroom.
Certainly, I want to raise student test scores, which sadly has become the driving force in education, but more importantly, I can picture a new computer raising self-worth and success in the students of my classroom. Thank you for your support of education, and, more importantly, the students.
DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need. Public school teachers from every corner of America create classroom project requests, and you can give any amount to the project that inspires you.
