Gravity is Great!

My students need hands-on, grab-and-go gravity materials that are made-to-fit younger hands and minds!

My Students

This year, at our school, we have endeavored to retrofit our existing science laboratory supplies to assist our younger elementary grade students.

But, sometimes, smaller hands need smaller science tools that are both safe and engaging!

This project aims to put the smaller hands of our younger science students to work, especially to harness the ever-present force of gravity. We are seeking tools that are easy-to-assemble, colorful, and self-engaging for our students who are mastering English as a second language!

My Project

In our science laboratory, especially in the younger classes, all of our students recognize the word "gravity". Often, young students will demonstrate gravity by dropping their pencil onto a desk or tossing a ball of paper into the air, to watch it fall to the floor. With this project, we aim to extend our gravity studies by observing the pull of gravity over a longer time, say a minute, at least. To do this, we need the right materials!

Most importantly, these Lakeshore kits are uber-flexible: they may be arranged in a gabillion different patterns, based on each student's unique inspiration.

These materials teach team cooperation, too, which is so critical to scientific thinking: two or more students may engage with each gravity kit, without diminishing the fresh ideas of any child. Like gravity, teamwork is a never-ending flow!
