My Students

In my classroom, students are given opportunities to explore math topics through hands-on activities. We use interactive notebooks for our lessons with the goal of students creating their own unique math book. Students enjoy manipulatives because its fun and it deepens their understanding.

Our school is a public, k-12 charter school, located in a very rural community.

Our student population is about 95% American Indian. We have 1 class per grade, with a student to teacher ratio of 12:1. Many of our students do not have access to the Internet or technology at home. Because our school is very small, the students and staff here work together like a family. Many staff members have multiple roles. We are working to get our parents more involved in their child's education this school year.

My Project

The materials that I am requesting will be used for students in grades 7, 8, and 9. These pegboards will be used to have students: learn how to plot ordered pairs on a coordinate system, graph functions, graph and solve systems of linear equations, and graph and solve systems of linear inequalities. Graphing is a skill that many of my students struggle with. With these boards, it is my goal, that my students leave my classroom understanding how to graph and how graphing relates to the real world.

This donation will help my students understand the basic ideas of plotting ordered pairs and how ordered pairs form relations and then, how relations are linked to real data.

This will change my students lives for the better because they will have an understanding of many things such as sales, the stock market, and even sports data.
