Students could easily read the text and complete coordinating activities such as vocabulary workbooks and comprehension packets. They could identify direct quotes within the text to draw inferences. Additionally, students completed a compare and contrast activity between the book and the movie. The active discussions regarding the development of Roz in both the book and the movie were great to hear, as no prompting from me was needed. As the ecosystem unit continued, an analysis of the setting of the book was completed, and the Ecosystem Game was implemented. \r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, students were excited to have access to them and couldn't wait to begin the unit.\r\n\r\nMy students' next steps will involve using the hands-on materials to explore their surrounding world as we begin to engage in Earth Sciences. The microscopes will be put to good use as we explore earth matter.","fullyFundedDate":1727887195710,"projectUrl":"project/creating-an-engaging-reading-and-science/8724523/","projectTitle":"Creating an Engaging Reading and Science Environment for 5th Grade.","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Harley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9719337"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_26955","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":140,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":60,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"10.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":30.9,"schoolId":26955,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Haliwa - Saponi Tribal School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Haliwa - Saponi Tribal School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/north-carolina-department-of-education/haliwa-saponi-tribal-school/26955"}
