Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My eighth-grade cluster is made up of students from a wide variety of backgrounds. My students continue to work hard each year and thrive in a learning environment that nurtures creativity.

Over 25% of the students in my cluster are classified as ELL (English Language Learners) and over 60% over the families do not recognize English as their primary language, but even with these hurdles, my kids work hard to find success in the classroom.

Additionally, over 80% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch. This means that many do not have the basic supplies that we take for granted.

My Project

Students in my math class will use graphing calculators to better analyze real-world math problems. Learning to use a graphing calculator is extremely important in school for my students since they do not have this valuable tool at home.

Children love to use graphing calculators to visually see their graphs and they especially like to explore the effects of changing parameters on a color edition graphing calculator since they can easily see the connection between the equations and the corresponding graphs.

More importantly without the opportunity to practice in and out of school, my students are at a major disadvantage. This calculator will be available for students to use in the class and at home for homework completion.
