Ms. Sally McAllister from Bloomfield CT is requesting instructional technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students graphing calculators. This will allow my students to learn, engage and practice using graphing calculators in their 21st-century learning environment, and feel more empowered to be successful in their high school math courses.

I believe when a learning environment with differentiated learning opportunities is introduced, maintained by the classroom teacher and supported by the school and community, students will develop an "I CAN" or “I WILL TRY” mindset and work towards higher expectations despite challenges. All children can learn if clearly supported and kindly encouraged. As a teacher in a high poverty district school, I am confronted with roadblocks that allow us, teachers, to develop and nurture a high achievement learning environment with children who may have been conditioned to believe that they aren't capable of high achievement because of special needs or conditions of their socio-economic status. With resources, encouragement, and support, I attempt to build the self-worth my students crave to succeed. Encouragement and support are abundant in my classroom, but resources are not! Your support in helping needed change is very much longed for and welcome!
The use of graphing calculators is a daily activity in their math courses. As a special education teacher, it would be valuable to have a set of graphing calculators for my room and there are not enough in our school to go around. I am asking for my students with special needs to have access to graphing calculators to enable them to practice and learn how to use in a more personal learning environment. In addition, having graphing calculators of their own would fuel the students' need to feel empowered to be more successful in their math courses.
By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student self-sufficiency, but you will also ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students will be able to focus on the academic material at hand, and not whether they know how to use a graphing calculator to complete assigned work. Plus, in this technology literate world, any interaction with 21st-century technology will increase their technology literacy as well as their desire to learn and use technology skills!
