My students need science notebooks with graphing paper. I often purchase regular composite notebooks at the beginning of the year for all my students. These regular notebooks lack graphing paper, for accurately graphing data.
Ours is a rural school in South Dakota that is bordered by the Yankton Sioux Indian Reservation. Many students are Native American from the Yankton Sioux Tribe. Eighty-six percent of the student population lives under the poverty level, therefore supplies are often purchased for my classroom from my own pocket. Purchasing supplies for school can be very expensive and often their families do not have the funds to purchase them. Throughout the years, many of my students have pursued higher education degrees in health care and other science related fields due to the opportunities they have received through events including: science fairs, science related field trips, and inquiry based learning projects.
My Project
The donation of graphing notebooks will greatly increase my students abilities. Notebooks help students organize their thoughts and give them the ability to look back through their previous notes to connect current learning with previous material.
Using the graphing notebook will allow my students to accurately graph quantities in their notebooks, preserving this information in a form that can be referenced for future use in their scientific inquiries.
Notebooks also connect classroom learning to the real world. Research scientists use notebooks to keep track of their findings.
Unfortunately graphing notebooks can be very expensive taking up most of my school budget for supplies.
