Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a K-8 neighborhood school in the heart of Everett. This year I will teach five sections of eighth grade math. Of those five sections, more than half include English language learners. Many of our students have attended our school since kindergarten while approximately 25% have recently immigrated to the United States.

Curious, hard-working, and strong, our students are seizing their education to make a brighter future for our community and their families.

Our students, who all qualify for free or reduced lunch, are eager learners who are hungry for new opportunities to improve upon their math education.

My Project

Using mini white boards in the classroom will provide my students with a way to practice their math skills in a safe space. White boards make it easy to erase, communicating to students that mistakes are okay. In fact, mistakes are proof that we are trying.

Receiving quick, precise feedback is essential to student learning.

The individual white boards are large enough so that students can show me their work from a distance and I can quickly provide feedback on their learning.

The magnetic white board allows me to demonstrate coordinate graphing for all students so that they can model their work after my own.
