This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach some AMAZING AP (Advanced Placement) Calculus students at a low-income high school. Very few students make it to AP Calculus; out of our school population of almost 2500 students, I only teach between 30 and 50 students in AP Calculus each year. The more supports these students can receive, the better the chance they have to pass the AP Exam and gain college credits. These credits are incredibly beneficial to their college journey, as these days it can be equivalent to an approximately $500 scholarship.

Most of my students struggle to afford school supplies, and many work 1 - 2 jobs during the week outside of school.

They are SO appreciative of any outside donations, and I love seeing their faces light up when I tell them about the support they receive both inside, and out of, our community. Thank you for considering my students for this donation.

My Project

Part of the AP Calculus exam is Graphing Calculator REQUIRED. Most of my students don't have the financial resources to buy their own graphing calculators, and although I have some available for check-out in my classroom, I never have enough to lend to all of my students who need to borrow one for the year.

My goal is to order 4 or 5 more each semester so that within the next few years, I have enough for all of my students!

The nice part about graphing calculators is that they don't expire or outgrow their usefulness as time goes on. I don't expect to have to replace these at all over the course of my teaching career! We use these calculators daily, and I find a direct correlation between students who have consistent access to a graphing calculator and how well they do on the Calculator portion of the exam.
