Help me give my students a graphics tablet across all four of our journalism platforms! For design, graphics, editorial cartoons, computer-drawn illustrations, and photo-editing!
My students make up a bulk of our journalism program at the school, specifically, they are in charge of the broadcast tv show, the yearbook, and the literary magazine. Daily, these students must attempt to elegantly articulate controversial issues in a manner that is easily comprehended by their young audience, and even more impressively that is respected and applauded by our administration team. We are a younger journalism program at a smaller school, with less experience, but a lot of students with talent and dedication to their craft, constantly pushing to improve themselves and challenging themselves to compete against schools with much more established programs.
Despite our naivete and size, our students have been able to compete on a state level, and actually bring home the highest of accolades.
Last year, we were so fortunate to bring home five All-Florida awards at the Florida Scholastic Press Associations Spring Digital Contest - this was HUGE for us! Because of my student's passion for journalism, we have increased our yearbook size to match that of a larger school and are consistently pushing our page count to get closer to that of the larger schools in our
My Project
A graphics tablet would increase my student's capabilities as journalists in a multimedia world. This tablet gives them the ability to work on computer-drawn illustrations for our various publications, hand-drawn graphics for our broadcast tv show, editorial cartoons for our student newspaper, info-graphics for our student newspaper and yearbooks, and capabilities for photo-editing software to create photo-illustrations.
All of these functions would increase our students' breadth of knowledge in the art and design aspects of multimedia journalism and would allow them to enter even more competitions with categories in these areas.
Having a tablet gives students the opportunity to check out or rent the tablet to work on their projects from home when class time is not enough. We can also take the tablet with us when we travel for competitions.
