This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are devouring graphic novels. It made me shudder at first since I am a bit old school and wanted to see them dive into a good ole traditional novel, however, I have come around. My students are immigrants and refugees who are low readers (most self-proclaimed non-readers) and have a disdain for personal reading time. It has been an uphill battle, for sure! Anyway, a significant percentage of them have discovered graphic novels and are now fully engaged during reading time. I have to admit that is a huge step in the right direction, so here I am asking for your support in purchasing more graphic novels for the classroom.
