Graphic Novels!

Help me give my students popular and fun graphic novels to read in class or at home!

My Students

I have the most interesting, diverse, awesome sixth grade STEM class. The majority of the class receives free or reduce-price lunch. We have many English language learners and underserved students in this class.

This year we built our relationship based on alliance which means we are all in this together.

My students are extremely hard workers and rise to high expectations behaviorally and academically. My students are super excited about using their Chromebooks for nearly every assignment. They can do anything tech I throw out there, and then some!

In my class, we believe in being safe, responsible, and respectful. Our focus is on being great learners: We learn from mistakes, evaluate based on success criteria, ask questions and accept challenges, respond to feedback, never give up, know effort matters, reach goals, and state what I am learning.

We know as a class we are preparing for the next step in the educational journey: Junior High and beyond! They are super excited and nervous. It is my job to see that they are as ready as they can be for this next adventure.

My Project

It can be a challenge finding something every student likes to read, especially those that don't like to read. Graphic Novels have become a hit and research shows that they boost student reading ability levels.

Graphic Novels are so fun and engaging!

They have become very popular with our students. Students read through them without even thinking they are actually reading!

Having more of a selection and a greater number of books that are accessible to students will make such an impact. I am excited for the possibility of these books in our classroom!
