My Project

I am the K-6 librarian in a small rural Title I school in Arkansas. More than 80% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and we also have a large population of students who speak English as a second language.

Anyone who has spent time in a school over the last several years has probably seen the popularity of graphic novels.

This is by far the most popular section in my library, and students love reading graphic novels!

These books are great for everyone, but especially reluctant readers or kids who struggle with reading. The combination of illustrations and words helps kids as their comprehension skills grow. It's also extremely helpful to the students who speak English as a second language while they grow their English skills.

I'm a huge advocate for graphic novels, and I'd love to add these to my library for students to enjoy! The graphic novels in this project are specifically geared toward readers transitioning into chapter books/graphic novels from picture books. These graphic novels can build confidence and reading skills and help students love reading!
