Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My fourth-grade students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions! They love to read books, especially Graphic Novels! I teach fourth grade at a Title I school in Northern Virginia with a high population of students who are learning English as a Second Language.
My students are book-loving, collaborative thinkers, avid mathematicians, and enthusiastic learners!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically. Truly, they are my inspiration, and I love coming to school each day to teach my students new things and be creative thinkers.
My Project
l teach in a Title I school where 71% of the students at my school come from different backgrounds. composing of 34 different countries and 22 languages. A lot of my students do not have books or resources at home. These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind-and with this generation of students, they LOVE to read Graphic Novels! My students will be able to choose high-interest books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.
They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
