Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from mixed families, different backgrounds, and present various challenges unique to our classroom. They also have the biggest hearts, excitement for learning, and love for classroom community. Providing anything to help during these challenging times in the education community would be more than appreciated.

My class this year has suffered from years of COVID setbacks and many struggle with reading and social-emotional skills from lack of exposure and social time with others.

I am hoping to bring them resources that will give them a new found love of reading, connections to their reading, and being able to connect with one another on a healthy level.

My Project

Many of my students are engaged with reading, but are prone to choosing graphic novels. With my various levels of readers, they are invested in a variety of book series. Sadly, our classroom and library only have a few books from the series they love.

My goal is to provide students with the entire series of the books they already love in order to motivate them to keep reading instead of getting stuck on what book to read next.

My students tend to get discouraged when looking for a new book to read and resort to rereading books they are already familiar with. With this project I am hoping the familiarity of the series they already know will encourage them to keep picking up new books and broadening their exposure to text.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
